Taking short breaths, your running pace started to slow down steadily as you jogged on the sidewalk. While jogging, you turned around to see if they were still following you or not. Well, since you didn't see any of those three boys persuing you, perhaps that you were safe. Your pace continued to slow down and eventually you decided to go ahead and walk. You gave a huge sigh of relief; three bullies decided to chase after teasingly after school, and you had no choice but to flee to wherever you could. They didn't go to your school but seemed to consistantly pester you everyday somehow. "They're just one of those stupid street gangs or something," you whispered softly, glancing down at your shoes. "Always looking for trouble." The scent of salty water filled your nostrils, and the sound of crashing waves caused you to look back upwards; the ocean was very close by. You decided to go ahead and idle around on the beach since your parents wouldn't be getting off of work anytime soon. However, a hand quickly grasped your shoulder and you flinched in surprise. You turned around and cringed instantly; it was one of those three boys! You could easily recognize him from his ginger hair, and he seemed between the ages of eleven and thirteen. Just seeing that smirk on his face made you fell uneasy. "Wh-What do you want?!" you asked, slapping his hand away. Behind him, an older boy looking to be in his teens was approaching. This one had snowy-white hair and heterochromatic eyes. Another one of those three boys! Out of instinct, you turned around and started to flee again. You hurried onto the sandy terrain of the beach, not daring to pause and remove your shoes. "Leave me al--" Before you had time to finish your sentence, someone grabbed your shoulder again and you turned around, only to feel pain strike your face instantly. Your eyes shut closed, realizing that you had just been punched on the face. You stumbled backwards onto your rear, placing your hand on where the pain stung. Then, you opened your eyes back up. It was the third boy. This one had blonde hair and part of his hair stuck upwards in the back. "Wh-Why are you attacking me?!" you cried, afraid to get up. The two other boys, the ginger-haired and the white-haired ones, stood beside the blonde. The blonde one must have been the leader even though he only looked to be fourteen or fifteen. As he glared down at you with a malevolent smirk, he replied, "Ah, come on, you can't have a little fun in this game of cat-and-mouse?" "Go f-find a different person to play a child's game with instead of me!" you said in defense, attempting to get up from the ground. However, the ginger-haired boy kicked you back down onto the sand. "Hey, Len, what do we do now that the cat has caught the mouse?" he asked. The blonde, supposedly named Len, replied, "Well, now the cat eats the mouse!" "Wait, what? We're going to eat her?" interrupted the white-haired male, lifting up an eyebrow. The ginger boy laughed, only to get punched on the arm by Len. "Shut up, Lui," he said. "And that's not what I meant, Piko. I meant we beat her up." The three boys started to enclose around you, giving menacing looks. You gulped, bracing yourself for what was to come. "Hey, leave her alone!" You and the three boys turned their gazes towards the one who interrupted. Walking up to the four of you, another blonde-haired kid had rocks in his grasp. The left side of his face was covered in bandages, hiding his eye as well. He had a white sailor-like cap resting on his head, and a small American Goldfinch was perched on his shoulder. He held up a few rocks in his grasp as if threatening to attack the three boys. "And who the heck are you?" asked Len, glaring. "I'm Oliver, and I'll throw these rocks are you if you don't leave right now!" He returned Len's glare. "Piko, Lui, go deal with that Oliver kid," commanded Len, rolling his eyes. "I'll deal with the girl." Just before both Piko and Lui could take a step towards him, Oliver chucked rocks at them. One hit Lui on the face, and he started to flee the scene quickly. "I-I'm not going to get involved with this any further, Len!" he said, running away. Piko watched Lui leave and said, "Yeah...I don't want too either..." He swiftly followed after Lui before Len could yell at him. Oliver readied to throw more rocks, this time at Len; however, Len shouted, "If you throw rocks at me, I will beat the life out of this girl right in front of you!" He placed his foot on your chest, threatening Oliver right back. The blonde wearing the hat dropped all the rocks onto the sand. "...that was easy," said Len, fiendish smirk widening. "But the girl's still going to get beaten up anyways." As he finished his sentence, Len pressed his foot harder on your body, causing you to wince. "That's not a problem," said Oliver, giving off a smile. Then, he started to whistle a bit. "Good!" shouted Len, glaring down at you again. "U-Uh...Oliver? A l-little help...?" you said while whimpering. The goldfinch resting on Oliver's shoulder took flight and soared over towards Len. Then, the bird started clawing and pecking at him. Len removed his foot off of you, flailing as he screamed, "Ack! Get that bird away from me!!" He started to run away from you and Oliver, trying to get the attacking bird away from him. Oliver approached you and offered you a hand to get onto your feet. After rising to your feet though, the first thing you did was hug him tightly. "Oh d-dear goodness, thank you so very much!" you said. "Those three boys have been bothering me for quite awhile and you're the first one to actually stop them...!" He returned the hug, smiling. "It was no problem! If those gits bother you again, I'll just ask James to go and attack them!" he said, laughing. You broke off the hug and smiled back. "Your name is...Oliver, right?" He nodded his head. "Yep, that's me! What's your name though, miss?" "Oh, my name is _____." "Aha, what a nice name!~" he chimed in a bright tone. "Anyways, where are your parents? Shouldn't they've helped you or something?" he queried, looking around. You shook your head. "Well...they're at work right now, so I can't really get help from them..." "How about we hang out until they're done from work?" Oliver offered. "O-Oh! Alright!" you replied, already feeling comfortable around this boy. Oliver held out his hand to you, smiling warmly. You took his hand, feeling your cheeks flare up a bit just by glancing at his grin. He began to walk around the sandy beach with you, hand-in-hand. "I can already tell we'll be great friends!" he said ever so happily. "Oh? How can you tell...?" you asked curiously. Oliver paused. "A-Ah...er...you're kind of like my...only friend," he said, giving a hesitant laugh. "Every time I try making friends, they're always so scared of my bandages...you're not scared at all...!" "Oliver, you're not scary at all," you said. "You're actually quite nice and, um...c-cute!" Your cheeks flared up again. And from what you said, his did too. "O-Oh, thank you...! You are too!" he replied hesitantly. "_____!" cried out a recognizable voice. You turned your head out towards where you heard the voice, and it was your father. "Father!" "_____, my boss said I could leave work early today!" he said. Your father was standing near where the street was, gesturing for you to meet him there. "Come on, let's go home! Oh? Who's that? Did you find a boyfriend?" He pointed at Oliver. Both your cheeks flared up again. "N-No, I just met him today!" you said. "Well, come on, let's get going home then!" he said impatiently. "Give me a minute!" you said. He replied, "Alright, alright!" You turned toward Oliver and took his other hand into your grasp too. "I have to go," you said, "but I want to see you again..." "Should we meet here every Saturday...?" he said. "Yeah, every Saturday!" you replied, nodding in agreement. You quickly kissed his cheek just before you let go of his hands, but he grasped onto them again and kissed you on your lips passionately. You blushed with embarrassment, but returned the kiss. After your lips parted, you said, "Again...thank you for protecting me from those three..." Oliver grinned. "As I said, it was no problem! I'll see you later, _____!" He waved as you began to leave back to your father. Already, you couldn't wait to see him again next Saturday.
